BIXI on CNN's Edge of Discovery
A short news report on the BIXI system aired for the first time this morning on CNN’s Edge of Discovery. This program focuses on innovations from around the world that not only create breakthroughs in technologies but change the way we live our daily lives. BIXI wheels into San Francisco
On Sunday, August 2, the latest, greatest and greenest in public bike systems rolled into San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Crowds flocked to the site to check out the BIXI system, which has been operating successfully in Montreal since late this spring, with 3,000 bikes and 300 stations in service. Onlookers peppered the BIXI team with questions about bike sharing systems and were eager to try out the bikes themselves.

Newport Beach Embraces Bike-Sharing
For four days the BIXI beach flag flew at the Newport Pier, Balboa Pier, City Hall and the boardwalk at Newport Beach Elementary. Curious shop owners and the beach going public stopped to inquire about the BIXI bike sharing system. Most questions were around bike sharing and why that works for this community. Once sharing was defined as a mode of alternative public transportation, shifting the short trips from autos and available 24 hours a day, the response was “OK! How do I sign up?”

"European style" bike-sharing to begin in Newport

A Newport Beach foundation will become the first to offer “European style” bike-sharing in Orange County, allowing users to grab a bike at one bike station and leave it at another.
The program, meant to cut greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming, begins with plenty of fanfare this weekend, with events scheduled in Newport Friday through Monday.
